THROUGH-POST QUICK LOCK GUIDE

MR-05 vs. MR-06 Through-Post Hardware

Choose the correct through-post Quick Lock family by run geometry, post path, cable diameter and purchasing requirements.

MR-05 through-post Quick Lock cable railing hardware

MR-05 and MR-06 are both through-post Quick Lock families. The deciding difference is the cable-run geometry: MR-05 is for stair or angled runs, while MR-06 is for level or straight runs.

Both families pass through a prepared end-post opening and use a push-in Quick Lock connection with matching-diameter 1×19 stainless steel cable. The 05 or 06 choice does not replace checks for diameter, post path, access or exact model preparation.

This is a product-selection guide, not an instruction to drill or modify a post. Confirm the current model manual and the complete project design before installation.

Check the actual models and their manuals

Use the MR.RAIL product photographs below to identify each family, then confirm preparation in the matching manual. A photograph alone does not establish installation dimensions or structural suitability.

Choose MR-05 for stair or angled through-post runs

MR-05, MR-15 and MR-25 are the size-coded families for through-post cable sections that follow a stair or angled path. The angled run must be classified before the diameter family is selected.

Use the actual end-post materials and prepared path as part of the inquiry. The through-post category can cover approved wood- or metal-post arrangements, but the opening, access and model-specific preparation must be confirmed for the project.

Choose MR-06 for level or straight through-post runs

MR-06, MR-16 and MR-26 are the size-coded families for level or straight through-post cable sections. They are intended for a straight cable path, not for a stair angle that requires a different alignment.

As with MR-05, confirm the post route, rear access, cable diameter and current installation details before ordering. Do not substitute MR-06 because the exterior fitting appears similar to an MR-05 assembly.

Five inputs still matter after choosing 05 or 06

  • Diameter: select the matching 1/8, 5/32 or 3/16-inch family.
  • Cable construction: Quick Lock requires matching-diameter 1×19 stainless steel cable.
  • Post material: record wood, metal or a mixed end condition for each cable section.
  • Access: show the prepared through-post path and any restricted rear access.
  • Quantities: list each model family separately so the quotation and packaging stay traceable.

For a broader decision, compare the stair versus level guide, the through-post versus surface-mount guide and the cable diameter guide.

Ordering checklist for MR-05 or MR-06

Review the MR-05 family installation manual (PDF) and MR-06 family installation manual (PDF), or browse the installation library before preparing the posts.

  1. Mark the run geometry. Identify stair or angled versus level or straight sections.
  2. Choose the family. Use MR-05 for stair or angled through-post runs and MR-06 for level or straight through-post runs.
  3. Confirm diameter. Match 1/8, 5/32 or 3/16 inch to the exact model family.
  4. Confirm cable. State matching-diameter 1×19 cable for Quick Lock.
  5. Show the post path. Include post material, opening details and access limitations.
  6. Separate quantities. Keep stair, level and diameter families on separate inquiry lines.
  7. Review the manual. Confirm preparation, tools, supplied parts and installation sequence before work begins.

Frequently asked questions

What is the main difference between MR-05 and MR-06?

MR-05 is the through-post Quick Lock family for stair or angled runs. MR-06 is the through-post Quick Lock family for level or straight runs.

Can MR-05 be used on a level cable run?

MR-05 is categorized for stair or angled through-post runs. For a level or straight through-post arrangement, review the MR-06 family and confirm the approved model-specific preparation.

Can MR-06 be used on stairs?

MR-06 is categorized for level or straight through-post runs. Stair or angled through-post sections should be reviewed against the MR-05 family and the current installation details.

Which cable works with MR-05 and MR-06?

Both Quick Lock families use matching-diameter 1×19 stainless steel cable. The 1/8, 5/32 and 3/16-inch family must match the selected model.

Are MR-05 and MR-06 complete railing kits?

No. They are fitting families. Cable, posts, handrail, tools, package contents, quantities and project-specific requirements must be confirmed separately.
